The primary purpose of Moorhead Public Service's Annual Hydrant Inspection Program is to verify the proper operation of the city of Moorhead's approximately 1,750 public fire hydrants through annual inspections and preventative maintenance. A pro-active hydrant maintenance program is the key to ensuring that the City maintains adequate fire protection throughout the community.

Important Information for Our Customers

Dates: Starting October to approximately the end of November Annually

Hours: Between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM

Days: Monday through Friday

Moorhead Public Service regularly flushes city of Moorhead hydrants to ensure they are in working order for fire protection, and to remove mineral deposits that may accumulate in watermains. Residents are advised that the change in water flow patterns resulting from hydrant flushing may stir up mineral deposits in Moorhead watermains. During hydrant flushing, it is not unusual for residents to periodically experience discolored water, and/or pressure changes. Discolored water poses no threat to the public's health, but may stain laundry and have an unpleasant taste.
