SPRING 1999
Thanks to You, We've Captured The Wind!
Welcome to our first newsletter for supporters of
the Capture The Wind program. Moorhead Public Service customers have quickly
and enthusiastically supported electricity generated by wind. In less than
three weeks, the Capture The Wind program reached its goal, with more than
400 customers signing up to participate as Charter Members. Your response
shows our community's commitment to support clean, renewable energy
projects.
This newsletter will update you on our progress and
provide information on renewable resources. If you have any comments or
ideas for the newsletter, call us at 218-299-5400 or email mps@mpsutility.com.
Thank you for your support!
Wind Project Breaks Ground
A ground-breaking in mid-December may be unusual, but the weather was
warm enough to begin construction of the new wind turbine on Dec. 16, 1998.
A concrete foundation on which the 750-kilowatt turbine will be located is
being built. The turbine and 156-foot diameter rotor will be manufactured
and shipped in pieces to Moorhead for assembly in the spring of 1999. If you
subscribe to the wind power program, it will cost you just a half-penny more
per kilowatt hour when the turbine come on-line. Located at the northeast
edge of Moorhead near the Centennial Ball Fields, the turbine is being built
by NEG Micon. It's scheduled to begin producing electricity by June 1999.
