Wind Project Breaks Ground
A ground-breaking in mid-December may be unusual, but the weather was warm enough to begin construction of the new wind turbine on Dec. 16, 1998. A concrete foundation on which the 750-kilowatt turbine will be located is being built. The turbine and 156-foot diameter rotor will be manufactured and shipped in pieces to Moorhead for assembly in the spring of 1999. If you subscribe to the wind power program, it will cost you just a half-penny more per kilowatt hour when the turbine come on-line. Located at the northeast edge of Moorhead near the Centennial Ball Fields, the turbine is being built by NEG Micon. It's scheduled to begin producing electricity by June 1999.
