MOORHEAD PUBLIC SERVICE FORMALLY ANNOUNCES NAME OF ITS FIRST WIND
TURBINE GENERATOR
What’s in a name? Plenty, according to over 200 Capture
The Wind® members who responded to the call to "Name That
Turbine." In the last Capture The Wind® newsletter, members
were encouraged to submit a more suitable pseudonym for the turbine formerly
known as Turbine I.
During Earth Week, on "Windsday," April 25,
Moorhead Public Service (MPS) will formally announce the new name of Turbine
I. At 9:00 am, Capture The Wind® members who submitted the
chosen name will gather at the turbine site, where a plaque with the names
of the Capture The Wind® members who submitted the winning name
and the new name for Turbine I will be attached to the wind turbine
generator.
"Once we subscribed our second wind turbine, we
realized that it was not only confusing, but also unoriginal to keep
referring to the wind turbines as Turbine I and Turbine II," said
Jennifer Walz, communications director for the utility. "Our Capture
The Wind® members came through for us again, submitting over 200
names for our ‘Name that Turbine’ contest. The name we choose was
submitted frequently, giving it a slight edge over other proposed
names."
Thanks and congratulations to the following Capture The
Wind® members who submitted the winning name:
Kelly and Marjorie Aakre, Karl Bakkum, John and Mary Brink, John and
Virginia Dohm, Ann Duchscher, Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM),
Dennis Heley, Allen Helmstetter, Milton F. Johnson,
Michelle Olsen, and Danielle Wilson.
(Directions to Turbine I: Go north on 11th Street North in Moorhead to
15th Avenue North. Turn right onto 15th Avenue North going past Centennial
Ball Fields. Turn left and head north again just before the gravel road.
Wind turbine site is on 28th Avenue North, directly east of the wastewater
treatment plant.)
