Contact: Bill Schwandt, General Manager OR Contact: Joe Moore, Electric Operations Manager Phone: 218.299.5474 or 218.790.5358 Strong Winds Cause System-Wide Power Interruptions Power Restored Immediately in Moorhead As a result of today’s strong winds, Moorhead Public Service (MPS) experienced two very short system-wide power interruptions at approximately 4:00 pm. Each interruption lasted approximately one second and the electric system recovered immediately due to MPS’ electric system configuration.
These interruptions occurred when MPS’ transmission supplier, Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), had a 230kV transmission tower collapse due to the strong winds. MPS crews have reported the collapsed tower to WAPA for repair. MPS will continue to monitor its electric system in Moorhead. MPS is a community-owned utility serving the residents of Moorhead, Minnesota, with electricity and water.
