Contact: Bill Schwandt, General Manager OR Contact: Troy Hall, Water Division Manager Phone: 218.299.5471 or 701.371.6571 "Different Taste" in Moorhead Water Moorhead Public Service (MPS) recently made a switch in its water supply source, which has affected the taste of water from the utility. On Saturday, September 10, 2011, electrical cables to the ozone generators failed at MPS’ Water Treatment Plant necessitating a change in the usual treatment process. As of Saturday, MPS met water demands with 100 percent of its water coming from the wells in the Buffalo Aquifer and the Moorhead Aquifer. It is common for customers to notice the switch to well water because of the different taste. MPS’ Water Treatment Plant personnel resumed normal flow to the Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday afternoon with the majority of water coming from the Red River. It may take a few days for the taste of the water to return to normal.
MPS staff tests the water on a regular basis and, although there is a “different taste” in the water, the water is safe to drink and use.
MPS is a community-owned utility serving the residents of Moorhead, Minnesota, with electricity and water.
