Water Service to be cut off in North Moorhead and Oakport

Moorhead Public Service (MPS) had made the decision to cut water service to the Moorhead residents north of 28th Avenue North, including Oakport Township. Water will be cut at 8:00pm today (Friday, March 27, 2009) to this area. Once the water has been cut, water service will not be available until after flood waters have receded. MPS encourages residents in the affected areas to make water provisions before 8:00pm and not use water after 8:00pm.

MPS is cutting water to this area over a concern in the integrity of the rest of the system. As basements are beginning to flood, MPS needs to prevent the loss of water pressure due to water heaters causing pipes to break, creating an open flow of water in the homes.

We have no plans to cut water in any other area at this time. We take EACH WATER ISSUE ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. It is of utmost importance to protect the viability of the water distribution system to ensure safe water for the residents of Moorhead.

Again, this action is for all residents using MPS water service north of 28th Avenue North in Moorhead (including Oakport Township) and includes water service only.

MPS is a community-owned utility serving the residents of Moorhead, Minnesota, with electricity, water, and broadband Internet access.
