Sales Tax and Late Charges
Minnesota sales tax applies to electric charges and commercial and industrial water charges. In accordance with state law, electrical energy is tax-exempt when it is used as the main source of heat in a home during the winter heating season. Customers whose payment is not received by the date shown on the utility bill, will be assessed a late payment charge of 5 percent of the current amount due.
