Missouri River Energy Services is offering $10,000 worth of scholarships to eligible graduating high school seniors. Applicants must be customers of Missouri River Energy Services' member utilities, which includes customers of Moorhead Public Service.

The program opened January 15, 2011, and the deadline for students to submit applications is March 15, 2011. Students are required to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or vocational-technical school no later than the fall of 2011.

Awards are renewable for up to three additional years for students who meet academic performance requirements.

An independent scholarship management firm administers the program. Academic achievement accounts for 50 percent of the selection criteria. The remainder is based on a combination of factors, including work experiences, activities, awards and honors, career goals and plans, and unusual circumstances such as hardships. Students who plan to pursue electric industry-related fields of study are given some preference.

Scholarship winners will be notified in May 2011.
