Engineering Intern (Part-Time)

Job Description:

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Under the direction of the Project Engineer, the Electric Division Manager, and/or the Senior Engineering Technician, this position performs analyses, studies, and tasks related to the operation of the Electric Division at Moorhead Public Service.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Essential functions and typical tasks include the following:

  • Operates the AutoCad mapping system.
  • Analyzes electric system data.
  • Operates the ArcGIS mapping system.
  • Monitors electrical systems and studies results.
  • Provides design engineering assistance to engineering staff.
  • Assists with field staking.
  • Performs other related tasks as required.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required education and experience includes the following:

  • Current student pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, energy management, or a related technical field. Preference is a student in his/her last two or three semesters of college.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include the following: 

  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the workplace by demonstrating the following personal qualities: mutual respect, courtesy, flexibility, and teamwork.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include the following:

  • Ability to move around on foot at all utility locations.
  • Ability to be proficient in the use of computer equipment.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50-pound boxes.
  • Ability to sit, stand, talk, hear, climb stairs, kneel, and crouch.
  • Vision ability to see close, distant, colors, and peripherally.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Special requirements for this position include the following: 

  • Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the state of Minnesota.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment for this position includes the following: 

  • Generally works in a smoke-free, general office environment.
  • Occasionally makes deliveries to utility job sites and plant locations. May be exposed to high-voltage, hazardous chemicals or machinery with moving parts.


WAGE INFORMATION:

Wage is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
