2016 Budget and Rates

Moorhead Public Service (MPS) is locally governed by a five-member board of MPS customers known as the Moorhead Public Service Commission (Commission). Each fall, the Commission has the responsibility of establishing the utility’s rates and budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Preliminary estimates indicated that rate increases for MPS customers in 2016 may be in the range of 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent for electric rates and 6.5 percent to 7.5 percent for water rates.


On December 15, 2015, the Commission approved MPS' 2016 budgets, strategic plan, and rates, which budgets include a 2.5 percent increase in electric rates and a 6.5 percent increase in water rates, along with the fourth year of an eight-year phase-in of fire protection fees.

Community Solar Garden




Moorhead Public Service began a Community Solar Garden Project in 2015. The concept behind a community solar garden is to provide an opportunity for customers to obtain solar power without having to install solar panels on their property. Capture The Sun® is the new program at Moorhead Public Service that is associated with the Community Solar Garden.


With thanks to our renewable energy customers, Moorhead Public Service expanded the original size of the Community Solar Garden from 20 kW to over 44 kW in 2015! The expanded Community Solar Garden for 2015 is fully subscribed to and construction is complete. A public dedication and open house was held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, as part of Moorhead Public Service's celebration of Public Power Week!

You can browse through the library topics or use the powerful keyword search engine to find the information you need. The on-line portal also includes targeted research tools (for patent searches, MSDS documents, company profile information, workplace posters, and more) and benchmark industry data. If you can't find exactly what you need in the library, Questline includes a technical, marketing, and problem-solving "Ask an Expert" hotline service that Moorhead Public Service and MRES also provide FREE to our customers. There is no usage limit, all questions and answers are held in strict confidence, and answers are typically issued within 24-48 hours.
