Proposed 2015 Budget and Rates
Moorhead Public Service (MPS) is locally governed by a five-member board of MPS customers known as the Moorhead Public Service Commission (Commission). Each fall, the Commission has the responsibility of establishing the utility’s rates and budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Preliminary estimates indicated that rate increases for MPS customers in 2015 may be in the range of 4.5 percent to 6.5 percent for electric rates and 5 percent to 6 percent for water rates.

The Moorhead Public Service Commission held a public hearing on November 12, 2014, to consider a change in electric and water rates in Moorhead. The public was encouraged to attend and offer comments. A link to a video of the public hearing is below as "Video of Rate Hearing." For thirty (30) days subsequent to the closing of the rate hearing and prior to the adoption of a rate change, written testimony was received and considered by the Commission. To be considered by the Commission, written comments were to be postmarked no later than Friday, December 12, 2014.

The Moorhead Public Service Commission approved MPS' 2015 budgets and rates on December 16, 2014, which includes a 1 percent increase in electric ratess and a 6.5 percent increase in water rates, along with a third year of an eight-year phase-in of fire protection fees. MPS' rate brochure is being modified for the 2015 rates, will be printed in January, and will be sent out with customer bills in January and February 2015.
